AS WE COMMEMORATE Older Americans Month throughout May, I am reminded of my maternal grandparents. They are no longer with us, but in so many ways, they helped shape and guide my successes in life. When I was a child, they set a lot of good examples that I remembered and carried with me into adulthood. My grandfather was a career U.S. Navy man. Even after he retired, he was always awake at sunrise taking care of things that needed to be taken care of. The same can be said for my grandmother, who helped raise a couple of grandchildren and always put her family first. As I progressed in my professional career, I never lost sight of the work ethic I learned from my grandparents. I would take whatever job I was assigned and learn to do it the best that I could in every aspect so everyone—myself, my teammates and my company—succeeded. After I entered the mortgage business, I started as a processor and worked my way up to underwriter.
