Today, the Federal Housing Administration extended its moratorium on foreclosures and evictions for FHA single-family mortgages through March 31, 2021.
Details were published in Mortgagee Letter 2021-03 and apply to all FHA Title II Single Family forward mortgages and Home Equity Conversion Mortgages, except for those secured by vacant or abandoned properties. The ML was signed by Janet M. Golrick, a career staff person at HUD who has been appointed Acting Assistant Secretary for Housing/FHA Commissioner until a permanent replacement is confirmed by the Senate.
ML 2021-03 also extends the deadlines for the first legal action and reasonable diligence timelines for 120 days from the date of expiration of this moratorium for FHA-insured Single Family mortgages, except as noted above.
The last foreclosure moratorium extension announced in ML 2020-43 on December 17 was due to expire on February 28.
