Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, a United Methodist pastor and former mayor of Kansas City who has represented the 5th District of Missouri since 2005, will become the next chairman of the Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development and Insurance in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Housing Subcommittee has jurisdiction over FHA policy matters. In September 2019, when the subcommittee was under the chairmanship of former Rep. Lacey Clay (D-MO), NRMLA President Peter Bell testified at a hearing to discuss the current state of the Home Equity Conversion Mortgage program and steps that can be taken to protect borrowers and the health of the Mutual Mortgage Insurance Fund.
