HUD Seeks Input On Updating SF Property Requirements

The Department of Housing and Urban Development published a Request for Information in the Federal Register to obtain industry feedback on modernizing the department’s single-family minimum property requirements (MPRs).

What’s next: NRMLA is working with our committees to determine if the association should submit comments.

What they’re saying: HUD stated in FHA Info #2026-12 that “these standards have not undergone a comprehensive update in over two decades and no longer reflect current industry practices.”

The announcement added, “FHA MPRs are dated, creating unnecessary burdens that increase housing costs, discourage industry participation, limit access to FHA financing — particularly for first-time and low- to moderate-income American homebuyers — and outweigh the benefits they provide.”

Interested stakeholders are encouraged to review and provide comments by June 29, 2026.
