Diane McCormick George Downey OLDER AMERICANS ARE a sacred protected class with “one bite of the apple” to extract value from their home equity, says George Downey. “It’s critically important they do the right thing. And it’s our job, along with their financial adviser, to help them understand how a reverse mortgage might be a good idea and how it might fit in with their plan,” Downey says. “On the other hand, it’s our job to help them understand why it may not be a good idea, and perhaps a different course of action might be best.” In a career that spans decades, Downey has built bridges from reverse mortgages to financial planning, while also devoting his civic efforts to ensuring others a safe home and food on the table.
