NRMLA Southern Regional 11 Speaker Biographies Gail Balettie, Celink Gail Balettie is the Senior Vice President of Borrower Care and Client Satisfaction for Celink. Prior to Celink, she spent 12 years at Financial Freedom Senior Funding Corp. where she initially served as First Vice President, National Production Operations Manager, before moving over to servicing in 2011. Her reverse mortgage servicing experience includes leading borrower-facing functions, such as the call center, line of credit draws, payoffs, and payment plan changes, as well as end-of-loan functions, like HUD claims and assignments. Balettie has over 30 years of mortgage operations and management experience, including 17 years in the reverse mortgage space. Balettie co-chairs NRMLA’s Servicing Committee and she is also active on the HUD Issues Committee. Balettie attended the University of Texas in Austin, majoring in Business Administration. Jim Brodsky, Weiner Brodsky Kider PC Jim Brodsky is a founding member of the Washington, DC law firm of Weiner Brodsky Kider PC, who advises clients on strategic business initiatives, federal compliance and regulatory matters, mergers and acquisitions, asset purchases and sales, and secondary mortgage market transactions. As a former HUD Deputy Assistant Secretary, he has deep experience in FHA and Ginnie Mae (as well as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) requirements, issues, and opportunities, and also is Co-General Counsel of NRMLA. Jim is a Director of Enterprise Community Development, the nation’s fifthlargest affordable housing developer and community owner with well over a billion dollars of investments in almost 13,000 homes with more than 21,000 residents in 112 communities in four mid-Atlantic states and the District of Columbia. Jim also formerly served as a director (and as initial lead director and as chair of the Compensation Committee) of MFA Financial, Inc., a multi-billion-dollar NYSE-listed REIT that invests, on a leveraged basis, in residential mortgage financial assets and that is the owner of Lima One Capital. Richard Burke, Longbridge Financial LLC Richard Burke, SVP, Head of Servicing, Vendor Risk Management and Post Closing, has over 20 years of mortgage servicing experience in both forward and reverse mortgages, which covers a full gamut of activities and oversight. His experience ranges from customer service to bankruptcy and foreclosure through Vendor Risk Management. Rick was tasked with reviewing and responding to audits from GSEs, private investors, SOX, Federal Reserve Board, OCC, CFPB, and internal audits while at HBSC, OneWest Bank, and BNY Mellon. Prior to Longbridge, Rick was with BNY Mellon’s Home Equity Retirement Solutions business taking it to market and running the Servicing and Operation functions.

NRMLA Southern Regional 13 Allan Chao, Longbridge Financial LLC Allen Chao is Vice President of Inside Sales at Longbridge Financial. He graduated Valedictorian at Lamar University College of Business with a BBA in Economics and Finance. Allen has been in the reverse mortgage industry for ten years. He is a member of the Houston chapter of the Mortgage Bankers Association and is proud to be a Certified Reverse Mortgage Professional with NRMLA. Shelley Giordano, Mutual of Omaha Mortgage Shelley Giordano is Founder of the Academy for Home Equity in Financial Planning at the University of Illinois and author of “What’s the Deal with Reverse Mortgages.” In her two-decade career in reverse mortgage lending, Shelley has championed ethical standards for the industry with an emphasis on introducing how housing wealth can strengthen retirement income security to financial professionals. She has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Kiplinger, Time, the New York Times and sundry other publications. Currently, Shelley is Director of Enterprise Integration at Mutual of Omaha. Shelley earned a BA from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and an MA from Old Dominion University. She splits her time between Washington, DC and her farm in Warrenton, VA and is nuts for her Australian Shepherds, Scout and Harper. Melinda Hipp, Mutual of Omaha Reverse Mortgage Melinda Hipp is the Area Sales Manager for Texas and Oklahoma with Mutual of Omaha Reverse Mortgage and a Certified Reverse Mortgage Professional (CRMP). Having been a loan originator for over 26 years, Melinda is fluent in both forward and reverse mortgages. However, her passion for the older generation has propelled her to understand every portion of the HECM process, including underwriting, closing, funding, and servicing and has been focusing solely on the product since 2020. Melinda holds an MBA and MA from Southern Methodist University and a bachelor’s in music education from Texas Tech. Outside of her passion for reverse mortgages, Melinda is also a Golf Rules Referee and serves on committees with the USGA, Texas Golf Association and Golf San Antonio when not playing golf herself. Steve Irwin, National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association As president of NRMLA, Steve Irwin oversees the association’s initiatives to serve as an educational resource, policy advocate and public affairs center for consumers, lenders and related professionals. His background includes experience with strategic planning, organizational design, portfolio acquisition, risk management and quality control. He received his B.A. from Grinnell College and his MBA from the University of San Francisco. Elly Johnson, All Reverse Pro Elly Johnson has spent over 40 years in mortgage banking with the past 28 years in an executive capacity with several of the industry’s largest reverse mortgage originators and servicing providers. She now uses her years of experience and knowledge of the reverse mortgage industry to assist others in all aspects of the business as the owner and president of All Reverse Pro. She is an active NRMLA member, industry speaker, co-chair of the NRMLA HUD issues committee, and member of the NRMLA Board of Directors. In 2017, Elly received a “Career Achievement Award” from NRMLA for her thoughtful and tireless leadership in the reverse mortgage industry.

NRMLA Southern Regional 14 Joe Kelly, New View Advisors Joe Kelly is a veteran securitization professional, primarily in prime mortgage assets, including reverse mortgages. Before establishing New View Advisors, Kelly managed all aspects of Lehman Brothers’ prime mortgage finance agenda, including the first U.S. reverse mortgage securitization in 1999, and SASCO 2006-RM1, one of three securitizations nominated for Total Securitization's North American RMBS Deal of the Year. As a partner at New View Advisors, he provides product development, valuation, strategic advice and transaction management to HMBS issuers, proprietary whole loan issuers, servicers, investors, broker-dealers, lenders, and rating agencies. Mike Kent, PHH Mortgage Corporation dba Liberty Reverse Mortgage Michael Kent has served as President of Liberty Reverse Mortgage since April 2015. Before joining Liberty, Kent spent four years at Reverse Mortgage Solutions, Inc. (RMS) where he was President of Loan Originations. In addition to his reverse background, he has over 30 years of “forward” mortgage experience, and he has held leadership roles across various lending functions, including sales, operations, and secondary markets. He currently serves as Co-Chairman of the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association. Michael was born and raised in Chicago and attended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. He has been involved in several not-for-profits working in the areas of homelessness, world hunger, and women’s cancer. Mike is married to Sandy Kent (formerly Tennekoon), another industry veteran. They have a blended family of seven incredible children. Mike and Sandy live on the edge of the Tahoe National Forest in Nevada City, CA.

NRMLA Southern Regional 15 Rex Lamb, Celink Rex Lamb joined Celink in June 2018 and has over 25 years of mortgage operations, compliance, and management experience. Mr. Lamb is responsible for managing the Celink Risk Department which includes Risk Management, Escalations, Quality Control, Vendor Management, and State Licensing. Prior to joining Celink, he was with Financial Freedom as Director of Late-Stage Default, including Foreclosure, REO, and Bankruptcy. Prior to joining Financial Freedom, Mr. Lamb held officer titles at Selene Finance and Litton Loan Servicing in Houston, TX where he was responsible for servicing compliance, default operations, and analytics in various positions. Mr. Lamb is an active member of the NRMLA Servicing Committee. Clare Losey, Austin Board of REALTORS® In her role as Housing Economist, Dr. Clare Losey helps unpack complex data and keeps REALTORS® up to date on the latest trends in the Austin housing market and the broader economy. Prior to joining ABoR, Clare worked at the Texas Real Estate Research Center at Texas A&M University for seven years as Assistant Research Economist where she provided analysis & commentary on the Austin economy and housing market using econometric and statistical models. Clare earned her bachelor’s at the University of Texas Austin, her Master’s in Land Economics and Real Estate from Texas A&M University, and her Doctorate in Urban and Regional Sciences from Texas A&M University. Erik Morin, Atlas Valuation Management Solutions Erik has over 25 years of experience in the mortgage and valuation industry, and was the founder & CEO of Landmark Network, a leading appraisal management and technology company acquired by Class Valuation in 2018. Prior to the acquisition, Landmark earned its place on the Inc 5000 four times. Erik served as COO of Specialty Teams for Class Valuation until he sold his partnership interest in 2021 and launched a consulting practice, E.R. Morin Strategies, Inc. where he is an active investor and advisor for leading mortgage lenders. NMP Magazine named Morin a Mortgage Professional to Watch and HousingWire named him a Rising Star. He has served in numerous leadership roles with industry trade associations including the MBA, National Appraisal Congress, and NRMLA as well the boards of national non-profits. Scott Norman, Finance of America Reverse LLC A 30-year mortgage banker, Scott Norman led the original campaign to amend the Texas Constitution to authorize reverse mortgages in the state in 1999, when he founded the Texas Association of Reverse Mortgage Lenders. He later closed the very first reverse mortgage loan in Texas. Norman has also testified numerous times before the legislatures of California, Arkansas and Minnesota to help craft legislation to protect senior homeowners around the country. He got his start in the mortgage business in Austin in 1993, later becoming President of the Austin and the Texas Mortgage Bankers Association. Norman is currently the vice president of Field Retail and Government Relations for Finance of America Reverse and he serves as Co-Chairman of NRMLA’s Board of Directors for the 2022-2023 term.

NRMLA Southern Regional 16 Loren Riddick, CRMP, Thrive Mortgage Loren Riddick is a fifth-generation native from the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. After earning an associate degree from Walters State Community College while playing basketball, Loren began a modeling and acting career in New York where he was featured in commercials and beyond with the likes of the “Cosby Show” and “All My Children.” Foregoing a promising career in show business, Loren followed his heart by leaving New York to be with his true love, Missi, who was attending East Tennessee State University. After earning a second degree from ETSU, Loren entered the mortgage business in 1999 and today is the National Sales Director, Reverse Mortgage Lending, at Thrive Mortgage. His passion for seniors and helping other forward mortgage professionals embrace the amazing news of the HECM is an undeniable passion for Loren and his team. Bruce Simmons, CRMP, American Liberty Mortgage Bruce Simmons is the reverse mortgage manager with American Liberty Mortgage, Inc. in Denver, CO. He has been specializing exclusively in reverse mortgages since January 2003 and has been in the consumer finance and mortgage business since February 1987. Bruce is fond of saying that he's closed over 1,000 reverse mortgages and has never had a customer, or family member, ever tell him that they regretted their decision to do the reverse mortgage. He is proud of this because he makes 100 percent sure that everyone who does a reverse mortgage with him understands the pros and cons of exactly what they are doing. Bruce loves working with retirees and Baby Boomers to help educate them. Whether they take out a reverse mortgage or not, he makes sure that they understand how they work. Bruce loves what he does and loves helping people. Larry Temple Larry Eugene Temple is an attorney who served as the White House Counsel to President Lyndon B. Johnson from 1967 to 1969. From 1963 to 1967, he was the Executive Assistant to Texas Governor John Connally. From 1959 to 1960, he was a law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Tom C. Clark. Currently, Temple is chairman of the board of trustees of the LBJ Foundation. Together with his wife Louann Atkins Temple, and members of his family, he works closely with University of Texas students who have been awarded the Larry Temple Scholarship, an award endowed by The University of Texas System Board of Regents in 1990.
