NRMLA Western Regional 13 Speaker Biographies Jennifer Fingerlin, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development In December 2009, Jennifer Fingerlin joined HUD as a mortgage housing specialist with the National Servicing Center in Tulsa, OK. In April 2011, Fingerlin became the Contracting Officer’s Representative for the National Servicing Center where she became responsible for procurement actions for the Servicing Branch, including the HECM servicing contract. In March 2020, Fingerlin was appointed as a branch chief for the Servicing Branch where she was responsible for the oversight of the Secretary-held HECM servicing team. In January 2023, Fingerlin was appointed as the acting program director for the Servicing Branch of the National Servicing Center where she is responsible for overseeing the servicing of HUD’s Secretaryheld Assigned and Insured HECM portfolios. Fingerlin had extensive mortgage industry experience prior to joining HUD. She worked in mortgage origination for over ten years, overseeing loan processing and teaching first-time homeowner education classes. Leslie Flynne, Mutual of Omaha Mortgage Leslie Flynne joined the reverse mortgage industry in July 2011. Currently with Mutual of Omaha Mortgage, she is responsible for servicing oversight. She was formerly with PHH Mortgage and Reverse Mortgage Solutions, where she was responsible for managing a reverse REO division, all aspects of servicing operations, HUD regulations and compliance within servicing and client relations. Previously, Flynne was a consultant for the SolomonEdwards Group where she was directly involved in banking resolutions and asset liquidation for a government entity. From 1989 to 2008, she served in a variety of financial and operational director positions within Washington Mutual Bank and its predecessor Bank United, which included servicing operations for the commercial real estate lending portfolio, servicing operations for the commercial banking operations, branch acquisitions and consolidation and corporate mergers and acquisitions. Scott Harmes, CRMP, C2 Financial As National Manager for C2 Reverse, the reverse mortgage division of the nation’s largest mortgage broker, over the last seven years Scott designed and implemented the C2 Reverse Training, Certification, and Origination program that has certified hundreds of veteran loan officers, preparing them to ethically and competently help senior homeowners utilize reverse mortgages as a sustainable solution. Scott is a member of both the NRMLA Board of Directors and NRMLA's Education Committee where he has created and teaches course content for NRMLA's Continuing Ed courses for NMLS & CRMP CE Credit. Additionally, Scott has mentored more than ten percent of all Certified Reverse Mortgage Professionals nationwide through to their successful CRMP certification, the highest-level certification in the reverse mortgage industry. Sue Haviland, CRMP, Finance of America Reverse LLC Sue Haviland joined Finance of America Reverse LLC as National Sales TrainerWholesale Division in December 2020. Her background includes nearly 35 years in the mortgage business, the last 20 of which were focused on the reverse space. Sue is a CRMP and an ATD Master Trainer. She has been an originator, trainer, speaker, author, and hosted her own radio show, “Senior Spotlight with Sue Haviland,” which covered a wide variety of topics of interest to seniors. She founded Reverse Mortgage Success, a training company that trained loan officers to excel in the reverse space. Sue is President of Step Smart, an all-volunteer non-profit in southwest Florida that educates the public on the importance of fall prevention and the simple steps they can take to make their home safer. She is also a board member with the National Aging In Place Council.

NRMLA Western Regional 14 Steve Irwin, National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association As president of NRMLA, Steve Irwin oversees the association’s initiatives to serve as an educational resource, policy advocate and public affairs center for consumers, lenders and related professionals. His background includes experience with strategic planning, organizational design, portfolio acquisition, risk management and quality control. He received his B.A. from Grinnell College and his MBA from the University of San Francisco. Mike Kent, PHH Mortgage Corporation dba Liberty Reverse Mortgage Michael Kent has served as President of Liberty Reverse Mortgage since April 2015. Before joining Liberty, Kent spent four years at Reverse Mortgage Solutions, Inc. (RMS) where he was President of Loan Originations. In addition to his reverse background, he has over 30 years of “forward” mortgage experience, and he has held leadership roles across various lending functions, including sales, operations, and secondary markets. He currently serves as Co-Chairman of the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association. Michael was born and raised in Chicago and attended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. He has been involved in several not-forprofits working in the areas of homelessness, world hunger, and women’s cancer. Mike is married to Sandy Kent (formerly Tennekoon) another industry veteran. They have a blended family of seven incredible children. Mike and Sandy live on the edge of the Tahoe National Forest in Nevada City CA. Jud Lyman, PHH Mortgage Corporation dba Liberty Reverse Mortgage Jud is the Director of Learning and Development at PHH/Liberty Reverse Mortgage where he manages the training for the wholesale, retail and correspondent lending departments. Prior to taking on the role of Director of Training, Jud began his journey with Liberty in 2010 as the wholesale marketing manager where his main focus was helping Liberty’s approved partners grow their business. After earning his bachelor’s degree in journalism from CSU, Sacramento, he spent nearly 15 years as a marketing professional at financial organizations such as E*TRADE and The Dentists Insurance Company before joining Liberty Reverse Mortgage. Jim McMinn, Longbridge Financial, LLC Jim McMinn is the Director of Training at Longbridge Financial, LLC. An industry veteran, Jim brings 25 years’ of experience in sales, training and leadership roles and has worked exclusively in the reverse mortgage industry since 2002. Throughout his career, Jim has worked with several major mortgage lenders including Wells Fargo, MetLife, and most recently, Finance of America Reverse. In his role with Longbridge, Jim specializes in teaching others about all things reverse – the products, the history, the regulations, and his proven sales techniques. He has a passion for building relationships and takes a special sense of pride in coaching Longbridge sales staff and its partners so that clients can improve their cash flow to have a better retirement. Scott Norman, Finance of America Reverse LLC A 30-year mortgage banker, Scott Norman led the original campaign to amend the Texas Constitution to authorize reverse mortgages in the state in 1999, when he founded the Texas Association of Reverse Mortgage Lenders. He later closed the very first reverse mortgage loan in Texas. Norman has also testified numerous times before the legislatures of California, Arkansas and Minnesota to help craft legislation to protect senior homeowners around the country. He got his start in the mortgage business in Austin in 1993, later becoming President of the Austin and the Texas Mortgage Bankers Association. Norman is currently the vice president of Field Retail and Government Relations for Finance of America Reverse and he serves as Co-Chairman of NRMLA’s Board of Directors for the 2022-2023 term.

NRMLA Western Regional 15 Ken Sawan, CRMP, Benchmark Mortgage For over three decades, Ken Sawan has been involved in the reverse mortgage program exclusively. One of 11 kids, he was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, and moved to New Jersey in 2014. In his reverse career, Ken has managed national sales teams, trained processors, originated hundreds of reverse mortgages, and assisted in the writing of policies and procedures. He has a passion for the program and the positive effect it has on borrowers who secure one. He is also very compassionate and aware of the issues surrounding our seniors today. While not for everyone, given the proper education and guidance, the reverse mortgage has assisted hundreds of thousands of senior homeowners to live a more comfortable life in their “golden years” without enduring financial stress. Joel Schiffman, Weiner Brodsky Kider, PC Joel represents banks, savings associations, and companies in the financial services and mortgage industries nationwide. His practice embraces a variety of matters relating to mortgage banking, including the marketing, origination, servicing, and secondary market disposition of mortgage loans, with an emphasis on reverse mortgages. Joel is Co-General Counsel of the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association and serves on the association’s Ethics and Standards Committee. Prior to joining Weiner Brodsky Kider PC, Joel was Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Financial Freedom Senior Funding Corporation, the nation’s largest reverse mortgage lender and servicer at the time. Mark Schniepp, Ph.D., California Economic Forecast Dr. Schniepp is Director of the California Economic Forecast in Santa Barbara. The Company prepares forecasts and commentary on the regional economies of California. Dr. Schniepp prepares economic analysis and county-level forecasts for Cal Trans, Kaiser Permanente, The California State Auditor’s Office, and other organizations throughout California. He develops regional real estate and economic forecast publications and presents the findings at large public conferences in Ventura County, the Santa Clarita Valley, and Santa Barbara County. Dr. Schniepp served as Director of the Economic Forecast Project at the University of California, Santa Barbara, between 1988 and 2000. As a past member of the faculty of the Department of Economics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, he taught intermediate microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, applied regional modeling, applied econometrics, and forecasting. Dr. Schniepp also served as a senior economist to the California State Controller from 1999 to 2003. Dr. Schniepp has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California. Ellen Skaggs, CRMP, Paramount Residential Mortgage Group Ellen Skaggs has 38 years of experience in the mortgage banking industry, originating reverse mortgages, and FHA, VA and conventional loans for both purchase and refinance. Ellen originated her first reverse mortgage in 2000 and has focused exclusively on the product since 2011. She is the HECM Division Manager at Paramount Residential Mortgage Group and past chairwoman of the Orange County chapter of the National Aging In Place Council. Kasey Watson, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Kasey Watson joined HUD in May 2006 with the National Servicing Center in Oklahoma City, OK moving to the Tulsa, OK National Servicing Center office in May 2012. In October 2015, Watson became the program director for the Servicing Branch of the National Servicing Center where she was responsible for overseeing the servicing of HUD’s Secretary-held mortgage portfolio, including Assigned HECMs, as well as the HECM Insured portfolio. Then in May 2023, Watson was appointed as a senior policy advisor for the HECM program in HUD’s Office of Single Family Asset Management. Watson holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Oklahoma and a JD from the University of Oklahoma College of Law.
