Speaker Bios
Paul N. Lovegrove, Esq. is a highly regarded legal professional who has represented lenders for over 40 years. With a profound dedication to the legal intricacies of the reverse mortgage industry, Paul has become a leading figure known for his expertise, innovation, and commitment to advancing the field. As a partner at Senior Settlement Services, a respected title and settlement company, he has left an indelible mark on the reverse mortgage industry across the United States.
Paul has represented reverse mortgage companies at closings, ensuring smooth transactions and adherence to industry standards. Paul’s influence extends beyond representation. He was the first to assert the permissibility of irrevocable trusts in the context of reverse mortgages, a stance that has since become widely accepted throughout the industry. His groundbreaking work has provided clarity and guidance on complex legal matters related to trusts and solar agreements. Paul has also dispelled the long-held industry notion that Texas trusts are unacceptable in the reverse mortgage space. Paul earned his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from New York Law School in June of 1983.
Chris Downey joined The Federal Savings Bank in July 2023 as HECM Senior Vice President. Before that, Chris was president of Harbor Mortgage Solutions, based in Braintree, MA, where he was responsible for the oversight of conventional mortgage activities, as well as general management of the firm. A graduate of Providence College with a B.S. degree in accounting, Downey began his career as a registered representative and operations manager at a securities broker dealership before joining Harbor Mortgage in 1989 as a mortgage loan originator. Downey was named vice-president of Harbor Mortgage Solutions in 1997 and succeeded his father George as president in 2004. Chris was elected to NRMLA’s Board of Directors in September 2024 and serves as Co-Chair of the Education Committee. He has also been an active volunteer in community service programs, including the Pan-Mass Challenge fundraising event for cancer research.
