As of Monday, April 1, face-to-face counseling has resumed in Massachusetts. A moratorium that was in place for the past year that allowed for telephone and video counseling expired on March 31.
The Massachusetts legislature is considering a spending bill that includes an amendment that would permanently allow for phone/video counseling.
What’s next: The legislation was approved by the state House of Representatives and the Senate, but because amendments were added to the Senate version, a conference committee has been convened to reconcile the two bills before they are voted on again.
NRMLA will keep our members apprised of the situation as soon as we know more. In the meantime, NRMLA extends our appreciation to George Downey (pictured) and Brett Kirkpatrick of The Federal Savings Bank for all of their efforts to get the legislation approved with the counseling amendment.
