MA Extends Virtual Counseling For Another Year

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healy signed legislation into law this week that allows prospective reverse mortgage borrowers to be counseled by telephone and/or video through March 31, 2024.

The most recent extension to allow for telephone/video counseling was set to expire on March 31, 2023.

NRMLA and our Massachusetts members will continue to advocate for telephone/video counseling on a permanent basis.

NRMLA extends our appreciation to George Downey, CRMP, and Brett Kirkpatrick, CRMP, from Harbor Mortgage Solutions, Braintree, MA, for their leadership in helping get the extension.

“Half a loaf is better than no loaf,” says Downey. “We didn’t get a permanent extension this time around, but a bill has been introduced to make telephone/video counseling permanent that we support.”
