NeighborWorks America notified NRMLA of the following changes to its HECM hotline.
As of January 1, 2023, NeighborWorks America recommends that lenders and servicers direct consumers seeking reverse mortgage housing counselors to HUD’s updated website where consumers can search for a reverse mortgage (HECM) counselor in their area.
Consumers can also find additional support from their local NeighborWorks America network organization, available in all 50 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico. Additionally, consumers may choose to be connected with a reverse mortgage housing counselor who services their area by contacting the HUD hotline at 1-800-569-4287.
As of January 1, 2023, operations ceased for NeighborWorks America’s Reverse Mortgage Information Center, a HECM hotline to refer consumers to NeighborWorks network organizations that provide reverse mortgage housing counseling services. NeighborWorks America remains committed to housing counseling, and its network organizations will continue to provide all of their existing housing counseling services, including reverse mortgage housing counseling. The HUD Office of Housing Counseling advises consumers seeking support to visit their updated website at HUD.gov to search for a reverse mortgage housing counselor, instead of older HUD websites that list specialized hotline numbers.
NeighborWorks America is a Congressionally-chartered, national, nonpartisan nonprofit that has worked with its network of nearly 250 organizations for almost 45 years to create opportunities for people to improve their lives and strengthen their communities by providing access to homeownership and safe, affordable rental housing, increasing financial capability, and promoting community and economic development.
