HUD Extends Foreclosure Relief to Maui Victims

HUD Extends Foreclosure Relief to Maui Victims

The Federal Housing Administration extended its foreclosure moratorium for borrowers with FHA-insured mortgages in Maui County, HI, through January 1, 2025.

Why it matters: This new extension — which is effective immediately — gives homeowners additional time to access available federal, state, or local housing resources; consult with HUD-approved housing counselors; and/or rebuild their homes.

The big picture: FHA believes that due to the extent of the devastation from the wildfires, the reduced capacity to access needed resources, and the unique geographic location of Maui, this further extension is warranted.
