Member Spotlight: Robin Moon, Senior Security Funding, a division of Western Ohio Mortgage

To help our members get to know one another, NRMLA publishes periodic member spotlights featuring professionals from across the reverse mortgage ecosystem.

Meet Robin Moon, a loan officer with Senior Security Funding, a division of Western Ohio Mortgage, based in Sydney, OH.

Robin is originally from Louisville, KY, but relocated to SW Ohio in the early ‘80s due to a job transfer.

  • A majority of her career was spent in advertising sales and management for radio and television.
  • She made a career change when she became a Reverse Mortgage Specialist with Western Ohio Mortgage in the mid-2000’s.
  • In 2021, she obtained a reverse mortgage on her own home, so she practices what she preaches.

How did you get into the reverse mortgage world?
In 2005, I met Teresa Rose, CRMP, the owner of Western Ohio Mortgage, while in my former career in ad sales for radio and television stations. At the time, I was dealing with aging parents in a neighboring state which happened to be a state Teresa was getting a lot of calls from about Reverse Mortgages. She offered to teach me how to originate if I would handle these out-of-state transactions, so I agreed. I loved the business and working with senior citizens. It was this experience that led me to make a reverse mortgage part of my own retirement plan. The mortgage crisis of 2008 sent me back to my original career, but a few years later I executed the retirement plan and obtained my reverse mortgage through Western Ohio Mortgage, of course, while studying for my Federal and State Licenses and began originating again.

If you could offer one piece of advice to someone who wants to get into the reverse mortgage world, what would it be and why?
Be patient. Listen carefully. Be a problem solver. Be able to identify with the challenges that seniors face every day. Keep in contact with borrowers throughout the process. You develop such a bond with your borrowers that they become like family. You will find that if you do your job well, they will keep in touch with you and sing your praises to others.

Who has been a mentor to you in your career?
Teresa Rose, CEO of Western Ohio Mortgage. Teresa is a CRMP with over 25 years in the business. She has offered exceptional assistance to me in helping my borrowers with some very unusual circumstances. “Unusual circumstances” happen to seniors as they age, retire, and often encounter health issues. Reverse mortgages are a very flexible solution to provide financial security and peace of mind in the golden years. I have a great team behind me, led by Teresa, that fills me with gratitude every day.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love keeping in touch with friends and family, but I’m also an animal lover. Dog and Cat Mom to three rescues, but I have many wild birds and squirrels that visit my feeders every day. My home is my oasis that I love to share with native Southern Ohio wildlife.
