Reverse Mortgages Eligible for Hawaii’s HAF Program

Hawaii Governor Josh Green announced this week that reverse mortgage borrowers are now eligible for the state’s Housing Assistance Fund program, and he increased to $60,000 the maximum amount that eligible households may receive to bring their mortgages current.

The program is available in Kauaʻi and Hawaiʻi counties, and on Oʻahu. To find out more about the program, visit https://dbedt.hawaii.gov/hhfdc/assistance-for-homeowners/.

The U.S. Treasury established the HAF Program in 2021 and allocated nearly $10 billion to be distributed by the states to assist homeowners who were economically impacted during the pandemic and remain at risk of losing their homes.

If you have clients who are still struggling to pay their taxes and insurance, please have them contact their servicer right away to see if they might qualify for HAF assistance.
