Responding to HUD’s HECM RFI

Responding to HUD’s HECM RFI

Over the next several weeks, NRMLA will be coordinating with our committees to draft responses to the Request for Information published recently by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Members are encouraged to review the 21 questions in the RFI and provide feedback to NRMLA.

What’s next: If you wish to add your own voices to these important discussions, NRMLA will look for input that:

  1. Does not require legislation or rulemaking to implement
  2. Responsibly helps to increase the overall market for HECMs
  3. Is consistent with the Administration’s housing policy goals
  4. Does not have a substantial negative impact to the Mutual Mortgage Insurance Fund

HUD and Ginnie Mae are using the RFI to gather market feedback on opportunities to enhance the HECM and HMBS programs and assess opportunities to improve and more closely align these programs with their intended role. Comments are due December 1.
