NAR: Median Age of Repeat Buyers Reaches 62

The National Association of Realtors reported in its 2025 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers that repeat homebuyers have the highest median age, at 62. Another eight percent of people between the ages of 65 and 74 are first-time homebuyers.

Go deeper: Individuals between the ages of 65 to 74 accounted for 30 percent of all repeat buyers, while individuals 75 years and older made up another 14 percent.

  • NAR says 19 percent of repeat buyers purchased a new home to be closer to friends and family.
  • It should be noted that while this is the top reason to purchase a home, neighborhood preferences have also changed. Among all buyers, the quality of the neighborhood (59 percent) and convenience to friends and family (47 percent) are the top neighborhood factors.
