FHA Streamlines Case Number Assignment Process for Condo Single-Unit Approval

The Federal Housing Administration is updating FHA Connection (FHAC) to simplify and speed up the process for assigning case numbers to units in condominium projects eligible for single-unit approval (SUA). Details were provided in FHA Info 2026-10.

  • Under the new enhancements, which become available on May 26, condominium projects already registered in FHAC with a status of “Expired” or “Rejected – Register SUA” will now automatically receive a case number assignment.

Why it matters: Previously, lenders had to submit condominium unit information each time they requested a case number so FHA could manually review and approve it. With these updates, lenders can expect faster processing times and a more efficient case number assignment process.

What they’re saying: “This is good news. Although it is strictly administrative, it should make the process more efficient,” said Elly Johnson, President of All Reverse Pro and Chair of NRMLA’s HUD Issues Committee.

  • “This update will completely bypass the Holds Tracking and manual email process for the HUD-9991 for those projects that are already in the system with an Expired, Rejected or Register SUA status.
  • Key item to note, receiving a case number does not mean the condo unit or project has been approved.”
