2026 Retirement Readiness Outlook

Asset Preservation Wealth & Tax, a high-net-worth financial advisory firm based in Phoenix, surveyed 1,000 Americans ages 55+ planning to retire in 2026 to gauge confidence levels and awareness gaps of what it means to retire in today’s economy.

  • Sixty percent of respondents said they feel very confident they will retire as planned.
  • However, less than one-third (27 percent) feel “very financially prepared” to retire and 18 percent feel not very or not prepared.
  • A little over half (53 percent) feel somewhat prepared.

Other key takeaways:

  • Fifty-two percent fear outliving their savings, while another 36 percent are concerned about the high long-term care expenses that may hit.
  • Only 21 percent of respondents are confident that their retirement savings will support their desired lifestyle.
